I am a Kenyan-born mother of three young children. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Microbiology and Masters in Public Health at UBC. My graduate research focused on understanding the systemic barriers facing marginalized mothers with a history of incarceration. As a certified trauma-informed coach, I bring a compassionate, evidence-based lens to my work—one that recognizes the complex realities many mothers face. My own journey through motherhood, with all its highs and lows, deepened my belief in the need for better support systems for moms and led me to Co-Found Our Village.

I am a mom to four-year-old Layla, my brave little preemie who was born with a rare kidney condition. Parenting her made me realize how important it is to make motherhood feel less lonely and more connected. I wanted to create a space where moms could share their stories, support one another, and feel a sense of belonging in the everyday challenges of raising children. With a background in education, psychology, and graphic design, along with years of leadership experience in nonprofit program management, I felt ready and inspired to co-found Our Village.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
- African Proverb
We are two friends who came together to create Our Village—a card game with a simple mission: to create a space where mothers can let their guards down and share hearts.
Just like some of the best (and worst!) ideas start with two overtired moms catching up over coffee, it all began at an evening meetup at Tim Hortons. Inspired by our own unique motherhood challenges and backgrounds, we thought, ‘How can we make motherhood a more supported and wholesome experience - but in a fun and impactful way?’
We knew that the answer would have to be an out-of-the-box one and that’s how Our Village was born. Since its launch in the summer of 2024, Our Village has proven to be an innovative way to increase connection and reduce maternal isolation.
Our standout innovation is a heartfelt conversation starter card game titled Our Village: Mothers Supporting Mothers, which we created to spark meaningful dialogue. Beyond selling it in stores, we have teamed up with top nonprofits that work with high-risk and vulnerable mothers, using the game in a powerful workshop experience—Experience the Village—where women come together to support, heal, and uplift one another.
We recognize that our mission with Our Village is no small feat, but our resolve remains firm. “It’s a labor of love,” we say, as we devote our time and hearts to building the village every mother deserves.
